I feel compelled to write this letter to show my gratitude to Croner Consulting, after my dealings with them during a recent Disciplinary Hearing. The advisor was not only extremely knowledable and professional, his wonderful telephone manner made an extremely distressing situation more bearable.
I wil always be eternally grateful to him for the fact that on the final appeal hearing on Monday 28th June 2010, he had a day of annual leave booked, yet took it upon himself to phone me in the morning to explain he was not ion the office, yet was available for any help and support needed. We discussed any new developments, and he provided me with his personal mobile phone number, so that he could be contacted that evening during the appeal hearing if needed (which he was!).
This, I feel, goes above and beyond the normal call of duty. The service provided by him, which refelcts on Croner Consulting and the NHF, has been truly exceptional.

Thank You
I wanted to write and say thank you for the back up and support I received from you great team, as a salon owner it was a huge releif to find that the restrictive covenant in your contracts can be enforced.
My business was severly affected by the dishonest and underhand actions of two stylists and I can't thank the great work of Woodfines Solicitors and yourselves enough for ensuring that this can't happen again. The membership fee is well worth all the support we receive from this great organisation. If there is ever anything I can do as an advocate for NHF I would be more than happy to do so .

Retiring After 34 Years
I have been a member for 34 years and would like to thank the Federation for their help over those years when I needed it.
There was always a friendly voice at the end of the phone when I needed your advice over any aspect concerning the staff or business. The salon has been trading for 63 years with 3 owners and I have now taken early retirement.
I have recommended you to the lady who is taking over the business and I hope she enjoys here time with you. Many thanks again.

Realise the Benefits of Being a Member of the NHF - Letter Submitted to Hairdressers Journal
I feel that all salon owners should realise the benefits of being a member of the National Hairdressers' Federation. I have been a member always, and have hugely benefited from using their contract of employment and their legal helpline.
None more so when a long-standing senior stylist left my employment. This stylist allowed her new employer to use a photograph of her in an advertisement in a prominent monthly magazine. Ray Seymour appointed a brilliant solicitor Michelle Bevan from Ashfords Solicitors in Somerset, which resulted in a positive outcome for us. At court the judge ruled that using a photograph of the stylist breached section 8.6 of the contract of employment - during your employment and within one year of termination of employment you shall not induce or undertake any act or permit any third party to undertake any act likely or intended to induce any customer or client of the salon with whom you have provided professional services during the course of the last twelve months of your employment to cease to patronise the business or premises of the salon.
Our salon name was not used in the advertisement, but the use of a photograph of the stylist along with her name, was deemed to be in breach of contract by both the new employer and stylist.
For those that are members of the NHF, I felt I should make them aware that the use of a photograph is a breach of contract and to contact the NHF immediately if this happens to them. For those who have not joined, please don't wait until something happens and you wish you had got round to joining. Two salons in my area who were aware of this case made enquiries to join the NHF. Annual membership to the NHF is money well spent.

'We are very grateful to the NHF for the help you gave us in trying to sort out our tribunal problem with a member of staff. Although it wasn't the perfect outcome it was better than it could have been and without your help it would have been a financial disaster.

Membership is Essential
I cannot stress enough how essential it is for all salon proprietors to be members of the National Hairdressers' Federation. I found myself in a dreadful situation when an ex-employee who was dismissed for gross misconduct decided to take her case to an employment tribunal.
I had followed all the correct procedures and sought the guidance of the 24 hour legal helpline before making any decisions. She was dismissed in January. She was eligible for Legal Aid and therefore employed a solicitor to act for her. In this case the NHF provided a solicitor to act on my behalf. Thank you NHF for all your assistance throughout this awful experience. The ex-employee withdrew her complaint 2 weeks before the tribunal hearing which meant my actions have been totally vindicated. My solicitors bill amounted to £2556 which was covered by the NHF insurance policy and paid on my behalf.

Fantastic Work
I would just like to take this opportunity to thank you for the fantastic work you and the NHF do for the hairdressing industry. I'm not sure that we would have been able to cope with dealing with all the legislation, legal issues, etc without the NHF since we set up the business.
It truly is something you should be very proud of. I would also like to congratulate you on choosing Woodfine Batcheldor solicitors. I have found them to be extremely efficient, helpful and most af all friendly. Exactly what I need at a time like this!

So Ends a Thirteen Month Ordeal
I am writing to advise you that the Judge at the Crown Court addressing a ten-to-two female jury, gave the following decision:-
'In view of the blatant and unequivocal lies told by the claimant under oath in this court yesterday, I have decided as a matter of law that no reasonable jury could be expected to place any reliance on any aspect of her evidence and, as a consequence, I direct you to find the defendant Not Guilty on both counts of Indecent Assault.' On a more personal note, I would like to thank you very much for your kind and supporting remarks to me when I first spoke to you about this matter in June/July last year. From your own personal experience, you offered good advice, which I found most helpful in preparing staff defence statements. This was a very generous gesture on your part and gave me great comfort at a time when the road ahead seemed dark and foreboding. I shall always be grateful to you for that. Thank you once again

Thanks for the Help and Support
I am writing to thank you for your help and support with the unfair dismissal claim made against me.
In particular I would like to thank the advisors on your legal helpline who initially helped me and Lawfords solicitors who were fantastic. Having never been in this situation before (and hope never to be again) Lawfords were great at explaining everything about the employment tribunal to me and with all their hard work and support they enabled us to win the case. The service you provide is invaluable.

Quote from Member Survey
I am a small business and being a barber I have few needs. However, when I was taken to a tribunal last year your help and support, more so financial, was my saviour. Exceptional value. Sometimes I grudged the membership fee as I didn't think I needed you - or so I thought.

I think the continual updating of salons re: important changes/proposed changes to laws is excellent. Things move so rapidly you don't realise you're outside the law for no fault of your own - so this is great.

Help and Support Appreciated - Letter Dated 28 January 2004
Dear Sirs I am sorry to say that I will not be renewing my membership as I have had enough and am given up my salon.
I will be concentrating on my clinical work, which I enjoy. The help and support you have given me over the years is very much appreciated and I feel that Ray Seymour has been an excellent General Secretary. Although you are losing me, I am pleased to say that my proposed purchaser has, I understand, taken out N.H.F. membership.

Efficient Organisation - Letter Dated 10 November 2003
Can I first say that I have been involved with a number of trade organisations over the years, in a number of other industries, but from my initial involvement with the NHF I find it to be a very efficient organisation.

Legal Lifeline Lands a Winner - Headline News Sept/Oct 2003
We had a problem with an employee, and ultimately she accused us of discrimination, on the grounds that she was disabled.
From the start we took advice from the Legal Lifeline, and took great care to make sure we followed their directions. That, and the legal representation provided by the Federation enable us to win at the Tribunal. Defeat would have cost us between £30,000 and £40,000.At all times we felt that we had done everything correctly within the remit of the Disability Discrimination Act. Our actions have been vindicated by the decision of the tribunal. We found the NHF help and advice invaluable, and have to express our gratitude for their support.

Importance of the NHF - Published in Hairdressers Journal September 2003
I am writing primarily to say a huge thank you to the National Hairdressers’ Federation and to stress to other salon owners the importance of being a member.
We were recently investigated by the Inland Revenue as part of a routine enquiry that lasted 12 months. As any busy salon owner knows, running a business is a full-time job, so the added demands of an in-depth investigation is a serious addition to the workload. As a member of the NHF we were appointed a tax accountant to liaise between the Inland Revenue and our own accountants. The investigation was managed by a team of supported experts limiting the stressfulness of the situation.Over the 12 month period we incurred accountancy charges of £16,000 and the entire cost was met by the NHF, all for the annual fee of £150.00.In my opinion, it is a membership that every independent hairdressing salon should have.Full credit to NHF general secretary Ray Seymour and the organisation as a whole, for its sound advice and efficient service.
