NHF Code of Practice

Members will:

  • Always place the welfare of the client above any other consideration
  • Not bring the National Hairdressers’ Federation (NHF) or the hairdressing, barbering or beauty industry into disrepute
  • Have suitable and adequate insurance (public liability as a minimum and ideally professional indemnity insurance as well) to protect clients and employer’s liability insurance for employees
  • Ensure staff provide a high standard of customer service
  • Ensure that staff are qualified to carry out the services offered to clients.  Where trainees are involved they will be supervised by a competent member of staff
  • Carry out advertising, promotion and publicity in a way that does not deceive or mislead the public
  • Have obtained permission in advance if an image or the name of another hairdressing, barbering or beauty business or an individual is used in advertising, promotion or publicity materials
  • Display clear descriptions of services, prices and accepted methods of payment
  • Maintain their premises and all equipment to ensure the health and safety of clients, visitors and staff and observe the strictest standards of hygiene and cleanliness
  • Try to resolve any complaints quickly, fairly and efficiently
  • Abide by the Code of Conduct and sign a declaration to confirm this when completing the NHF membership application form.
