It really has been an incredible opportunity for Evangeline Barrett from BLONDZ Hair in Weymouth, as Step Up & Shine Scholarship Winner, this week has had two top educational days!

The first was on Tuesday 9th August with Michelle Griffin as Evie got to grips with the art of hair extensions. Project Leader Debbie G was on hand to assist where needed with the Billi Currie salon in London providing the space for the day. An area of expertise Evie has minimal knowledge in with award winner Michelle able to provide the theoretical and practical skills required to become a qualified expert. The morning was a chance for Evie to work with Michelle on a dolls head focusing on placement and technique, before putting her new confidence into practice on a live model. The results were stunning and Evie is now a fully qualified micro ring extensions specialist, which is a huge achievement and something that has been possible because of this amazing scholarship.

Still “buzzing” from her day with Michelle Griffin Evie then made her way to Kensington and the Errol Douglas Salon. The Step Up & Shine Scholarship is bespoke to the winner and one of the areas that Evie wanted to focus on was afro hair and this was an opportunity to shadow and learn from two key members of the Errol Douglas team. Eve Owusu and Wayne Shorter run busy columns and Evie was able to assist them as they went about their day with the focus on afro styling. Evie was able to get up close to how the application process of a weave, while also developing her understanding of product use. It was another fantastic day and Evie was able to learn a lot from being part of the Errol Douglas team for the day. One she won’t forget in a hurry!

Evangeline Barrett, from BLONDZ Hair in Weymouth, said

“Wow what an amazing couple of days! I have so much to take back to the salon and I still cannot believe I am a qualified Micro Ring Hair Extensions Specialist. I am definitely going to be using my new skill as much as I can and I cannot wait to be able to offer this service to my clients. Spending the day at the Errol Douglas Salon was a real treat for me as Errol is definitely one of my hair icons, and his team were so welcoming and friendly. I went away with lots of tips on how to improve my afro hair techniques and I am so grateful to them for all the time they spent with me!”

Keep up to date and follow Evangeline on her journey as she begins her scholarship.
