National Hairdressing & Beauty Federation welcomes Government T Level decision
After much lobbying by the National Hair & Beauty Federation (NHBF) the Secretary of State for Education announced in March 2023 the decision to delay the delivery of the Hairdressing, Barbering and Beauty Therapy (HBBT) T Level to 2024. Since then, the Government has met regularly with the NHBF, hairdressing, barbering and beauty professionals and employers to discuss their skills needs, as well as with other sector representatives regarding the planned HBBT T Level.
In beauty, the sector told the Government that a good quality level 3 classroom-based progression route is desirable. Therefore, the Government has announced it will explore introducing a T Level which focuses on the beauty sector, with an emphasis on science, and the expectation that this could be introduced after 2025.

Enforcement Notice issued to non-UK based cosmetic surgery providers to tackle irresponsible ads
The Committee for Advertising Practice (CAP) has issued an Enforcement Notice to cosmetic surgery providers based abroad, setting out the strict advertising rules in place that are designed to protect people, in particular young and other vulnerable audiences, from potential harm. CAP has also begun enhanced monitoring to identify and tackle irresponsible ads for cosmetic surgery procedures.
Entries for the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers and Top 50 SME Apprenticeship Employers 2024 are now open
The Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers and Top 50 SME Apprenticeship Employers for 2024 opened on Tuesday 6th February.
Produced by the Department for Education, the prestigious annual rankings recognise England’s outstanding employers for their commitment to creating new apprenticeships, the diversity of their apprentices, and the number of apprentices who successfully achieve their apprenticeships.
Entries for the 2024 rankings are free-of-charge and the entry form has been specifically designed to be simple and straightforward for employers to complete.
The new 2024 rankings will be announced during a special live broadcast in the summer – and will be followed by an event at the House of Commons in autumn, celebrating the country’s leading employers of apprentices.
The deadline for submitting an entry is 5pm on Friday 12th April 2024.

Campaigning for you – Northern Ireland
After two years of political deadlock, the devolved assembly in Northern Ireland is about to become fully operational again. This follows the recent approval of a trade agreement between the UK government and the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), which was ratified by the House of Commons last week.
The NHBF commented: As we have done since COVID, we continue to share the results of the quarterly State of the Industry surveys and our policy recommendations for the UK and devolved assemblies with both officials in the Northern Ireland Department for Economy and the Minister for the Economy.
