NHBF referenced in Government Aesthetics Regulation Debate
The National Hair & Beauty Federation (NHBF) was quoted this week in the House of Commons during a debate about aesthetics regulation. The UK’s largest hair & beauty trade body had raised concerns about a concerning bias emerging in the Government consultation process. The consultation, which is now closed, will inform the shape of the government’s licencing regime for non-surgical cosmetic procedures.
New law for workplace recycling in Wales
The Workplace Recycling Regulations will require all business, public and third-sector workplaces to separate key recyclable materials in the way that householders already do across most of Wales.
The law will come into force on 6th April 2024 and will increase recycling and reduce the amount of waste sent for incineration and to landfills.
It will also improve the quality and quantity of recyclable materials collected from workplaces, which will in turn capture important materials to be fed back into the Welsh economy.
Government reinstates full ban on animal testing for cosmetic ingredients
The Government has reinstated a full ban on all licenses for testing cosmetic ingredients on animals, following a May ruling that prevented the granting of new licenses.
NHBF AGM 2024
Our 82nd annual general meeting will be held on Monday 1st July 2024 in London, venue to be confirmed. The meeting will start at 1.00pm.
Members are welcome to attend the AGM – please notify membership@nhbf.co.uk if you wish to attend. Only Members will be admitted.
Items on the agenda include:
• Installation of board Members.
• Receiving the NHBF’s annual report & accounts for the year ending 31st December 2023.
• Appointment of auditors.
• Any other decision requiring Members’ approval.
If you have an item of business which needs the approval of Members at the AGM, you must send it to membership@nhbf.co.uk no later than 5pm Tuesday 28 May 2024.

All you need to do is complete a short statement about yourself in writing or on video, or both (maximum length 3 minutes), telling us why you’d like to be on the Board and what you think you would bring, and return the application form to us by 5pm Sunday 4 February 2024.

COSMILE Europe app launch – Cosmetic ingredients information at your fingertips
Cosmetics Europe, the European personal care association, has launched the COSMILE Europe app. This app provides access to reliable, verified, and scientifically supported information on cosmetic ingredients in a transparent and accessible way. It helps consumers across Europe understand why certain ingredients are used in their cosmetic products, which properties they have, and much more. The app is available in 8 languages (Dutch, English, French, German, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, and Spanish), and it is free to download.
To use the app, the user can scan the ingredients list on the label of a cosmetic or personal care product or search for information on an individual ingredient manually. The app also has an ‘Insights’ section that answers frequently asked questions on cosmetic ingredients and provides information on how UK and EU cosmetics legislation ensures cosmetics and personal care products are safe. You can download the app from Google Play or the Apple Store.
